EVOKE

EVOKE is a game from the World Bank Institute in which the player engages with pressing real-life social questions.

EVOKE is a game from the World Bank Institute in which the player engages with pressing real-life social questions. Firstly you have to create your own superhero avatar and write a short. Every Wednesday a problem is published in the form of a comic-book story. These are based on issues the UN is currently facing, be it disaster relief, oppression of women or conflicts over water.

Players must begin by researching the problem and publishing their findings. Then they must perform a small, simple good deed in the real world, which has some connection to the problem in question. Finally, they describe how the world should look in 2020 in regard to the problem. You earn points with the blog entries, photos and videos, and these can be traded against superhero traits such as creativity, bravery or teamwork. Once you’ve completed a certain number of problems you earn the status of “World Bank EVOKE Social Innovator” and can then apply for funding for your own social projects.

The active phase of EVOKE is over, however the website is still accessible and old episodes can still be played.
