Micro Mappers

An app to rate damage in crisis areas.

Digital relief workers can use this app to rate damage in crisis areas. The app was recently used in the aftermath of tropical storm Yolanda. Once you’ve registered as a volunteer, you are automatically sent tweets or Facebook posts with pictures attached, which you rank on a scale by extent of destruction and relevance. That helps the relief workers on the ground to set priorities, which is extremely important in moments of great urgency. With this app, in principle anybody can become a relief worker – 244 volunteers have taken part in the project so far and completed 1,500 tasks.
