Code for America is aims to harness the power of the computer nerds. It gets them to apply their programming skills to challenges around city administration and planning. To this end, Code for America offers fellowships to interested web developers and provides financial support throughout the duration of the programming process. Interested cities can independently apply: so far Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Seattle and Boston have benefitted from projects in the fields of education, participation, efficiency and openness. Code for America hopes to use this process to generate a new generation of talent in public sector ICT.
