On 23 January 2013, one hundred organisations started a social media campaign demanding “enough food for everybody!” The campaign’s website is brilliant. A sleek Twitter feed for the hashtag #IF beams the latest tweets and videos on the campaign on the homepage. At last, a campaign in real time!
As you’d expect from a well-run campaign, there’s also a video showing campaigning events in Ireland, Wales and Scotland, all with distinctive campaign banners. The campaign was run to coincide with the G8 Summit in Ireland, where issues around food provision were due to be discussed. To maintain pressure on the politicians taking part, there was an IF online petition. The campaign was a great success, and the numbers speak for themselves: 47,000 supporters, 66,000 tweets and 5,000 likes in the space of two weeks.
