GlobalVoices

GlobalVoices campaigns for worldwide freedom of speech and information.

GlobalVoices campaigns for worldwide freedom of speech and information. Officially a foundation incorporated in the Netherlands, GlobalVoices is a network organisation par excellence. Since 2005, an international community of what is now over 700 bloggers and citizen journalists report on issues on the streets, aiming to redress the inequities in media attention. Their focus is on those whose voices are ignored in international mainstream media or due to censors in their own countries. For example, the Tunisian blog Nawaat, which played a central role during the coup in 2011, was circulated by GlobalVoices at a very early stage. As the entries are being translated into 30 different languages by around 500 volunteers, their voices are resounding further. The blogger network is backed by the Omidyar Foundation (belonging to the founder of eBay, Pierre Omydiar).
