The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) analyses the impact of foundations with its Grantee Perception Report. In the USA there is a growing consensus that the work of foundations shouldn’t just be accepted as good per se, but rather ought to be subject to continual evaluations. Meanwhile 300 Venture Philanthropy Funds and foundations have been persuaded to open themselves up to the judgement of a total of 50,000 project beneficiaries in 87 countries (as of October 2013). The CEP assembles qualitative and quantitative data with the help of detailed questionnaires distributed to beneficiaries in 8 languages. This lets them measure the effectiveness of programmes and highlight examples of best practice or where there is room for improvement. Some foundations even publish the results of their Grantee Perception Report on their websites.
